This Heart

Take you, this heart;
though scarred and bruised
from loves attacks
’tis still in hope, willing
to trust just once more.

Take you, this heart;
though weak and scared
from loves betrayal
’tis still prepared, ready
to open once more.

Take you, this heart;
though tarnished, stained
from loves pursuit
’tis still in light, able
to fight just once more.

Take you, this heart;
though changed, remade
from loves dark lies
’tis still fool to believe
in truth once more.

Take you, this heart.
’tis mine, and all I have to give.

    A heart freely given is a heart still beautiful regardless of its history. Beautiful poem.
