DP : Memories For Sale

Inspired by the Daily Prompt today : On a weekend road trip, far away from home, you stumble upon a garage sale in a neighborhood you’re passing through. Astonished, you find an object among the belongings for sale that you recognize. Tell us about it.

Memories For Sale

You moved away
long ago
down roads of
prairie grass;
You took with you
tender heart
kept locked in
jar of glass;
When roving through
country wide
on journey
through the land;
I came across
items shown
by strange
disheveled man.
A garage sale
so it was
with table
full of junk;
An old guitar
wedding dress
a broken
steamer trunk.
And there in shock
your glass jar
with tender
heart within;
Discarded and
forgotten
like casket
full of sin.
This gift I gave
with loving trust
cast away
so easy;
Found right here
showing plain
that you
no longer need me.

    If I had a soul, this would have touched it, deeply.

      IF you had a soul??? Your words are clear evidence that, not only do you have one, it is a thing of beauty and strength.

    This is sad. But sadness motivates people to create more than happiness. I wonder if you are inspired for the right reasons… πŸ˜‰
    Anyway, this is great.

    • Simon says:

      These were just the words that flowed from fingers to keys to screen, nothing more πŸ™‚
      And thank you πŸ™‚

    I always find it so rewarding when we aren’t really trying to “do anything” exactly and something so touching comes from it. If this were what you were going through it could be so amazing to think that now that you had your heart back and that maybe you could be set right and able to move along yourself. But as it is, wonderful piece! Thank you for sharing!

    • Simon says:

      Thank you for your comment and for taking the time to read this piece. You’re right, one of the things I love about writing is when a piece of work just suddenly flows from your fingers with no idea where it came from. It’s very pleasurable especially when people read it and like it. Thanks again.

    Yep, you can read the flow in this Simon. I love it, and if I found that jar I would have bought it! Although, I probably would have haggled with the guy! *wink*

    • Simon says:

      Thank you πŸ™‚
      I think people are reading a little too much into this – it was pure fiction, inspired by the Daily Prompt, nothing more.
